Acrylic

Acrylic

Acrylic is a form of plastic that can be made in almost any colour and can be either opaque, translucent or transparent, giving you an extremely wide choice in body jewellery options. Common brands of high-grade acrylic include Polycast, Perspex and Plexiglass.

A common misconception about acrylic is that it can yellow, turn brittle and crack over time - though this may be true of cheap plastics, it is not the case with acrylic. If taken care of, acrylic can remain looking as good as new regardless of its age, and is often much cheaper than the metal equivalent.

Acrylic is a great material to use for stretching piercings, as it is smooth and lightweight. However, it is worth noting that acrylic cannot be put through an autoclave, and should only ever be worn in fully healed, established piercings.
