Silicone
Silicone is flexible, malleable, water resistant, and has high temperature resistance.
In the piercing industry, silicone is often used as a metal alternative due to its comfort and bio-compatibility. It can be sterilised in an autoclave and can also be cleaned using antibacterial soap and warm water.
To aid in insertion and removal of silicone body jewellery, lubricate the jewellery with saline or skin-friendly oil - however it is important that you do not stretch your piercings with silicone jewellery. Stretch using traditional materials (e.g. acrylic), and switch to silicone body jewellery after.
Be aware that swimming pool chemicals can cause discolouration to silicone body jewellery.
