Wood

Wood

Wood jewellery is lightweight, organic and is available in a variety of types and colours. Due to the unavoidable variations in the grain of wood, it is the perfect material for those looking for unique pieces of jewellery.

As long as the surface of the wood is sanded and polished, it should be smooth against the skin and cause no irritation. Seeing as wood is porous, it has the added benefit of reducing the odour associated with stretched ear piercings by absorbing oil and sweat around the piercing.

To prolong the life of wood body jewellery, clean with mild soap and water and dry immediately, then oil with jojoba or vitamin E oil on a regular basis.

Wood is an organic material so should not be exposed to water, sunlight or extreme temperatures for extended periods of time. It is important that you never soak the wood (this includes wearing wooden jewellery in the shower or bath), as it will absorb water too quickly; this can cause it to swell, crack and warp.

Wooden jewellery cannot be autoclaved and is only suitable for fully healed, established piercings.
